Wood Core
Wood cores are the industry standard and we offer core options wood
and bamboo. Limbs made with these cores offer superb performance
characteristics, holding bow performance relatively constant under most
conditions.
Here at Border we are performance driven and so
our wood and bamboo cores are made from multi-layered, edge stacked,
wood or bamboo. These engineered wood and bamboo formed laminates
eliminate the natural weaknesses often found in timbers of all types,
weaknesses caused by cross grain for example. Multi stacking also give a
homogenous structure and dependable and consistent strength and weight
as each vertical layer is edge glued to its neighbour and one layer
supports the next.
More details...
Our wood cores used on our range of limbs are all edge layered,
as explained above. These are autoclave dyed and so can be made in a
variety of colours. These vertically stacked layers in the core
laminations are a mere 0.7 mm (0.03") thick and so offer consistent
strength and weight ideal when applied to very high performance limbs.
Like
wise our bamboo cores are similarly constructed. Bamboo made bows are
the hallmark of traditional bows and are part of the legend of bow making
since the time of Howard Hill. Following that legend this option is
readily available. Bamboo has the reputation of elastic performance and
one of the first choices of the all-wood bowyer.
Please note
that the choice of core materials will not affect the draw-feel of the
bow. The draw-force curve generated by any bow is a direct result of the
string angles interacting to the geometry of the limbs.
